Voices of Texas

Independent reporting on the issues shaping Texas

About Voices of Texas

Voices of Texas reports on the decisions, systems, and pressures that shape daily life in the nation's second most populous state. It is an independent publication with no owner in any party, campaign, or advocacy group, and it takes no side in partisan contests. The work is Texas-focused by design. The aim is to explain the state to the people who actually live in it.

Coverage is organized into eight areas. The Texas desk tracks statewide growth and how the map changes from region to region. Transportation follows the highways, freight, and trucking that move a growing population. Public Safety examines road fatalities, dangerous corridors, and emergency response. Infrastructure looks at water systems, bridges, and aging utilities. The Economy desk covers jobs, trade, and the growth of particular regions. Communities reports on urban and rural life and the distance between them. Education spans schools, universities, and workforce training. Environment addresses water, drought, and long-term resilience.

Across all eight, the approach is the same. Reporting starts from public records and named primary sources rather than assertion: state agencies, federal datasets, and the bodies that actually collect the numbers. Figures are traceable to where they came from, and where a number cannot be confirmed, the method and its limits are described instead of a clean total being invented. Because Texas is not one place, coverage stays specific about which corridor, county, or region a finding applies to. Our standards for sourcing and corrections are set out in the editorial policy.

Site history

This publication is built on the domain delilahfortexas.com, which was associated with Delilah Barrios's 2022 Texas gubernatorial campaign and is now an independent editorial publication with no affiliation to it. A brief, dated account of the domain's earlier use is kept on the historical campaign archive page for readers who arrive looking for it.

What remains is the reporting. Voices of Texas publishes under a single masthead rather than individual bylines, and the reasoning behind that choice is explained on the team page.

Voices of Texas is an independent, non-partisan publication about Texas. It has no affiliation with any campaign, candidate, or party, including the 2022 campaign once associated with this domain.
